MAC Heavenly Creature Collection for Fall 2012

MAC Heavenly Creature Collection for Fall 2012

The latest collection to hit the MAC displays is the MAC Heavenly Creature Collection for Fall 2012.  It’s their large mineralized collection of the season (we usually see a couple of these in the year), including Mineralized SkinfinishesMineralized Blushes and Mineralized Eyeshadows.  In addition, the collection also features someLipsticksCremesheen Glasses, skincare products and more.
The collection is a celestial-inspired set with the mineralized products resembling planet-like patterns.  When I first saw the promo images, I was blown away by how beautiful they looked.  Marbleized domes of baked powders, no two the same, a huge range of shades and textures.

Mineralized Skinfinish

I’ve been playing with two MAC Mineralized Skinfinishes ($29 USD / $34 CAD) from the collection, including Light Year (a soft peachy pink with gold and bronze shimmer) and Earth Shine (a deep plum with gold shimmer).  These all over face colour powders are probably my favourite formula out of all of MAC’s mineralized products; I find they give a beautiful healthy glow to the skin without being too chunky or glittery.  I also find the pigmentation in MSFs to be much more impressive than the blushes and eyeshadows.
These powders can really be used however you wish- as a blush, a bronzer, a highlighter, an overall complexion enhancer, an eyeshadow… the possibilities are really endless!  I think Light Year is a little more wearable for my skin tone, as Earth Shine is a lot darker than I thought it would be (especially considering the amount of plum vs gold in my powder), so I think it would be lovely on medium or darker skin tones as a blush.

Mineralized Eyeshadow

MAC Mineralized Eyeshadows ($22 USD / $24 CAD) are incredibly deceiving- they look stunning in the pan, with marbling of various shades and textures, and it plays with your eyes; you see a palette, but it’s almost impossible to use the colours individually… so it’s important to swatch them, or look up swatches before buying.  What you see in the pan is not what you get on the eyes.
They are also notorious for being less than impressive in the pigmentation department, however the two I’ve been playing with, Bright Moon and Aurora, weren’t too bad actually!  Bright Moon comes off as a light, silvery blue and Aurora looks like a purplish brown.  Not bad shades on their own, but it’s just difficult to picture what they will look like from what you see in the pan.
Foiling these eyeshadows (using them wet, like with a damp eyeshadow brush) will dramatically improve their opacity, texture and give you a metallic finish.  It’s my favourite way to wear these mineralized eyeshadows, and I was quite impressed with how both of them worked damp.
I definitely suggest wearing a primer to hold these down, they are minerals so I find they have a lot of fall out when used dry.

Lipstick

Joining the mineral line-up are a couple lipsticks, one of which is the MAC Lipstick ($14.50 USD / $17.50 CAD) inPleasureseeker. This peachy pink lip colour is a glaze formula; probably one of the most sheer finishes that MAC has, but that also makes it very wearable and fool-proof.  You can build the colour as you wish as well.
The colour is really pretty, even though it takes a few layers to build, its a nice warm nude lip for my skin tone.  The texture is comfortable and doesn’t dry out my lips.  It’s nothing groundbreaking and the shade isn’t super unique, but if you’re looking for an easy transition into wearing nude lips, this might be it.

Cremesheen Glass

I was happy to see a few new shades of the MAC Cremesheen Glass ($19.50 USD / $22.50 CAD) joining the collection! These long tubes of gloss are MAC’s solution to those that love the scent, look and colours that MAC offers, without any stickiness or tackiness that the regular Lipglasses have. These are smooth, creamy and the most comfortable glosses I’ve ever tried from MAC!
Even though they aren’t thick and goopy, they still last a surprisingly long time. The shade Meteoric is a mid-tone, vibrant coral. I would consider it to be medium coverage, and perfect for summer! They still have the classic vanilla scent that I’ve grown to love (and almost become addicted to).
