Holiday Gift Guide: 10 New Coffee Table Books for the Fashion Obsessed

It’s officially mid-November, which means it’s probably time to start shopping for holiday gifts…or at least thinking about it. Not sure what to get your fashion-obsessed loved one? This year, I recommend a pretty fashion book, especially because there are so many good ones that have come out recently.
Who wouldn’t want a photographic look back at the house of Gucci or Carine Roitfeld’s career sitting on their coffee table? We certainly do, so compiled are the 10 best fashion books to have come out this year. And if you end up buying one of them for yourself, that’s okay. Won’t tell!

Gucci: The Making Of (Rizzoli)
This 384-page tome came out this month in honor of Gucci’s 90th anniversary. The iconic house’s creative director Frida Giannini edited the book, which is a tribute to Gucci’s heritage and influence. Inside, there are 52 original essays and over 700 images, some of which have never been seen before.

Irreverent (Rizzoli)
This book is an enormous, in-depth photographic look back at the life of one of the most interesting, talented and game-changing fashion editors ever. From Carine’s most iconic Vogue shoots to photos of her as a child to thank-you notes from Tom Ford, this is full of goodies.

Christian Louboutin (Rizzoli)
We’ll admit one of the main reasons we want this book is because of how beautiful the cover looks. But, to be fair, there are also beautiful and interesting things to be found inside, like contributions from David Lynch, John Malkovich, Dita von Teese, loads of photgraphs, a look back at Louboutin’s career, and behind-the-scenes access to his studios and homes.

Azzaro (Assouline)
A look back at Loris Azzaro’s glamorous and successful career. He dressed people like Brigitte Bardot and Jane Birkin and was an icon of 70s fashion. Penned by Jéromine Savignon, the book is full of photos you’ll want to look at over and over again.

Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel (Abrams)
This iconic Vogue editor’s daughter-in-law put together this new photographic memory book, which tracks Vreeland’s long and influential career. You’ll find the most gorgeous photos from her bestVogue editorials shot by the world’s most prominent photographers. It’s full of fashion history.

Dior Couture (Rizzoli)
This 248 page tome, out now, was put together by Patrick Demarchelier and is filled with black-and-white images that span from the birth of the house in 1947 until today. Expect lots of pretty Dior gowns on models and celebrities.

True British: Alice Temperley (Rizzoli)
After 10 years in the biz, successful Brit designer Alice Temperley just released her first Union Jack-clad book. It includes a foreword by from Lucy Yeomans, editor of Harper’s Bazaar UK, and images from international fashion magazines, Temperley campaigns and events, plus a look at her design process.

Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty(Metropolitan Museum of Art)
Yes, there’s a coffee table book to go along with that Met exhibit that attracted three hour-long lines. It spans the full breadth of McQueen’s career and offers a closer look at his unmatched skill, orginality and creativity.

The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk (Abrams)
This book was also published in conjunction with a retrospective exhibit this, but at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Jean Paul Gaultier was anything but boring and this volume, which includes essays, interviews with famous clientele, sketches and photographs, won’t be either.

Marisa Berenson: A Life in Pictures(Rizzoli)
From her modeling heyday in the 60s and 70s to her acting career and beyond, this beautiful book is like a who’s who of famous photographers and icons (think Andy Warhol, Irving Penn, Helmut Newton). It’s all edited beautifully by Steven Meisel.
