W March 2012 centers on photographer Emma Summerton’s story featuring Anais Mali (Ford) whose title “Feminine Mystique” borrows from the 1963 feminist classic of the same name by Betty Friedan. Photographed alongside Jourdan Dunn (Women) and Jasmine Tookes (IMG), Anais rides a wave of bold patterns and prints styled by Giovanna Battaglia. The French model opens the story, a Salvatore Ferragamo clutch held to shoulder, wearing an Alberta Ferretti silk chiffon blouse, Proenza Schouler knit raffia skirt, Alan Journo hat, Lynn Ban brooch, and a Burberry Prorusm belt. Turn the page, Anais looks at the camera, cat eyes by makeup artist Mathias Van Hooff beckoning forth, wearing a leather top by Céline, a silk and metal skirt by Marni with a belt by Michael Kors, the hem of which she gently tugs with her hand, Vionnet bracelet around her wrist. The story provides an engrossing counterpoint to Craig McDean’s decadent “Oh, You Pretty Things” editorial from the same issue. That Anais Mali figures so prominently in the story only serves to deepen to its overall mystique.
