Coming Soon: The Valentino Garavani Virtual Museum

Library
When so much of the fashion world seems to be launching retrospective coffee table books and museum exhibitions, Valentino is cutting out the high price tags and long lines with a virtual museum. It’s literally an entire museum dedicated to Valentino, but on your computer through a desktop application you can download online on December 5. According to a release, the retrospective museum, which spans 50 years of Valentino, would cover over 100,000 square feet if it were real.
In addition to over 300 gorgeous dresses from the Valentino archives, the museum’s content will include sketches, illustrations, ad campaigns, editorials and photos of events and memorable red carpet moments (Jackie O, Julia Roberts, etc). There’s also a library of 5,000 images and 95 runway show videos. Valentino tells WWD,
I see it as part of my legacy. I am happy that thousands of students, young designers and fashion people will be able to see and study my work in every aspect of it, and in a manner easy and accessible for the younger generations. But it is also important to remember things of the past, to review the fashion that has shaped our lives. I would call it ‘Future Memory.

The museum, despite being on a computer, features Roman architecture and lighting, according to Giancarlo Giammetti, Valentino’s business partner. The concept of having a museum at your fingertips 24/7 is pretty cool and we wouldn’t be surprised to see more of this in the future.
In keeping with the all-access, tech savvy feel of the project, a press conference for the launch with Valentino Garavini and Giancarlo Giammetti will livestream on YouTube on December 5. For now, click through for a sneak peek!
