After exiting her namesake brand in May 2010, the designer Devi Kroell is returning to the fashion scene for Fall 2010 with Dax Gabler, a new collection of handbags, footwear, and ready-to-wear ranging from $250 to $890. Kroell launched her namesake collection of exotic skin and wood handbags in 2004. In 2006, she won the CFDA's Perry Ellis Award for Emerging Talent; last year, she stepped down as CEO and creative director of her company and was replaced by Ralph Bartel, a member of the family that had been her financial backer since 2008.
Here's a snippet of whats to come from Ms. Kroell
How is the collection assorted?
Outerwear, footwear, and handbags, evenly spread out. I thought it was critical to bring key pieces to the table without being too heavy on one particular category. I haven't decided how many SKUs it will have—I'm still editing the collection—but overall, it's in the hundred-something range.

What materials are you using?
Leathers, embossed leathers, a lot of very interesting knits in the ready-to-wear. It's very much about texture, but using a clean approach. Obviously, at these price points you can't produce in New York or Italy, so we're doing a bit of production all over the world. My goal was to bring a quality product at a more affordable price.

Where did the name originate?
Dax Gabler is my grandmother's maiden name. I wanted a name that was very personal and easy to pronounce in every language, with an androgynous component as well. When you hear Devi Kroell, you don't know if it's a woman or a man, and I wanted Dax Gabler to have the same feeling. Down the line, there are expansion plans—we may do menswear, and that name.
