Fashion Moment....

The Thakoon For Nars Spring 2012 Nail Polishes Are Available Now

Thakoon's Bollywood-goes-West Spring 2012 show was a delicious riot of print and color — and now, thanks to a just-released collaboration with Nars, the same vivid hues that made up the collection can be worn on fingertips and toes.

In keeping with Thakoon's spiced-up Spring theme, each of the new lacquers — five of which are shoppable online now at Sephora and Nordstrom for $18 apiece — is named for a traditional Indian spice or herb. Anardana, a vivid pink, takes its name from the Hindi word for wild pomegranate seeds, while Amchoor, a bright yellow, is named after dried ground mango. A sixth color, Lal Mirchi, is a hot, tamale red and is named after — what else? — chili peppers.

Lal Mirchi is available only at the Nars Bleecker Street boutique in New York

Tyson Beckford on How Linda Evangelista Helped Models Get Rich

Tyson Beckford says Linda Evangelista's famous pronouncement about '90s-era supermodels not waking up "for less than $10,00 a day" helped him — and other models of his time — make "silly" amounts of money.
Beckford explained in a recent interview that some of his paychecks were so large, they were almost comical.
"I once walked in a fashion show — literally, just walked — for no more than a minute or two and they paid me a silly amount of money . . . $40,000," Beckford said. "I was like, 'Really? You don't have to give me that!' You know when Linda said that it set the bar for every other model — everyone just upped their day rates. It was hilarious. All the models — women and men — were like, 'Remind me to send Linda flowers!'"
Beckford also said that paychecks weren't the only things in the '90s modeling industry that were over the top.
"The fashion industry was so different back then. I guess it was all so new and so extravagant," he said. "The budgets were enormous; it was certainly a lot more fun. The parties were out of control and because no one had a camera phone and there was no Facebook or Twitter, you could do whatever you wanted with whoever you wanted."

Anthropologie Reveals Next Collaborators

Hot off the heels of last month's highly successful Made in Kind debut, Anthropologie has announced that Tracy Reese will be among the latest batch of designers to be featured in the May installment of the online collaboration platform.

Available April 27, Reese's seven-piece capsule will be made up of bright lace and photo-printed dresses, all with the same girlie, vintage vibe the designer is known for. Inspired by the gardens of the Frida Kahlo museum, the collection will be priced around $248 to $348 — much like Reese's already-existing Frock and Plenty diffusion lines. Alongside Reese's collection, Made in Kind's May offering will also feature pieces from UK designer Charlotte Taylor, whose collection of op-art printed shifts and jumpsuits will be priced from $118 to $268, and Byron Lars, whose eight-piece capsule of folk-tinged dresses and tops — titled Beguile by Byron Lars — will be priced from $90 to $280.Also on tap this time around are a range of pieces designed by a variety of India-based designers under the India Collections marquis, as well as new pieces from last month's partners Karen Walker,Place National, and John Patrick for O by Organic.

100 Years of Fashion in 100 Seconds

Beyoncé Tops People‘s 2012 ‘Most Beautiful’ List, Kate Middleton Lands the Number 10 Spot

People‘s always hotly-anticipated “Most Beautiful” issue hits newsstands this Friday, but they’ve given us a peek at this year’s cover girl and winner of the “Most Beautiful Woman” title and duh, it’s Beyoncé. The new mom could not be more deserving of the title.
In the accompanying profile (which we won’t be able to read in full until Friday), she’ll dish about her workout secrets (yes, she’s back to her pre-pregnancy weight), her beauty secrets (ooh!) and her life with Blue Ivy.
“I feel more beautiful than I’ve ever felt because I’ve given birth,” she told the mag. “I have never felt so connected, never felt like I had such a purpose on this earth.” When asked which parent Blue looks like, her response was, “She looks like Blue. She’s her own person.” Oh, and she loves to change diapers.
People has styled Beyoncé as a gorgeous mama angel, with light blonde hair, a fluffy white dress and turquoise jewelry, giving the overall impression that she’s lolling around in the clouds.
Rounding out the rest of the top ten:
2. Sofia Vergara
3. Charlize Theron
4. Lily Collins [Ed. note: It's all about those brows.]
5. Madeleine Stowe
6. Christina Hendricks
7. Michelle Williams
8. Paula Patton
9. Miranda Lambert
10. Kate Middleton

Tom Ford Talks Makeup, Branding, and Sexuality at Vogue Festival

Tom Ford's talk at this weekend'sVogue Festival touched on everything from the designer's sexuality (at one point he said he's "not gay") to why he wears his own cosmetics.
Alexandra Shulman led the conversation with the designer, asking why he posed for ads with so many naked women when he's been openly gay for years. Ford explained that he doesn't believe people "have to put boxes around everything," then asked, "Have you ever slept with a woman, Alex?"
The question prompted laughter from the audience, and a giggling Shulman answered no and pointed to Ford's partner of 25 years, Richard Buckley. Read on to see how he responded and some of the best quotes from the rest of his talk.
On his sexuality: "I hate to use the words gay and straight, and I think we're all on some sort of sliding scale. Of course, I'm at the Richard Buckley end of the scale, but I hate that gay/straight thing."
On why it's important to be in his own ads: "I'm the face of the brand. With Chanel, you feel that Karl Lagerfeld's personality has really melded with Coco's — but not everyone knows yet who I am, so that's why I'm in the pictures. I don't like having my picture taken but it helps people to respond . . . My real life's not like the fantasy Tom Ford world, with naked girls pouring perfume everywhere. It's more staying in and watching Friends on television."
On staging presentations rather than runway shows: "The reason I present in a small, controlled way is that so much of what makes my clothes special is the cut, the stitching, the lining — things that would be lost on the catwalk. On the catwalk you have to exaggerate, almost."
On testing his line of cosmetics: "I put every single thing on — I don't wear it down the street, but I want to see how it covers, how it works. When you put your name on something, you want people to know you believe in it."
